Executive Director

Are you a self-driven and highly relational executive desiring to lead and grow an innovative organization committed to creating positive social change? We are seeking an experienced and passionate professional to serve as our Executive Director.  The Executive Director provides leadership, business development, and strategic plan execution.  Reporting directly to the President of Measurement Resources Company, the Executive Director will deepen collaborations with clients and community collaborations and forge new alliances with strategic stakeholders in the social sector across the United States.

Measurement Resources Company (MRC) is an organizational development and research firm that assists government and nonprofit organizations with data-driven decision-making that improves organizations’ efficiency and effectiveness.  Our services help our clients use data-driven solutions to:

Job Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Executive Director has primary responsibility for the daily operational management of MRC and for developing and implementing an action plan that aligns with MRC’s 10-year vision and strategic plan. The ED will expand the reach of MRC’s services throughout Ohio and the U.S. He or she will make it a priority to preserve and build upon the high-performing, collaborative spirit that exists internally with the team, and externally with the larger nonprofit community, government officials and other stakeholders.

To reach the vision of MRC, achieve the goals of the current strategic plan, and to fulfill its mission, the successful candidate should have the competencies listed below.

Strategic Leadership

The successful candidate will demonstrate a history of:

  • Working with a collaborative team in a leadership role to develop strategic action plans that was, or is currently being, implemented successfully; including developing plans for revenue, systems, human resources, and programs required to meet the goals of the plan.
  • Ensuring staff members have clear roles in achieving the strategic plan, as well as establishing plans for accountability and project deadlines.
  • Identifying organizational and programmatic indicators of success, measuring baseline performance, collecting data to assess the work, and making program and operational changes for continuous improvement with evaluations.

Business Development

A strong candidate will have a track record of:

  • Developing, implementing and evaluating a diverse and sustainable business development strategy cultivating existing clients and developing new client relationships in order to meet resource needs for continued growth and effectiveness.
  • Identifying, negotiating, securing and managing large contracts from government entities, foundations, and social sector partners with compliance in implementation and reporting.
  • Attracting significant resources by leveraging relationships, building trust and credibility, and fostering support to advance a mission.
  • Identifying opportunities for growth and building new revenue pipelines, including new services and program offerings to meet the needs of the social sector.
  • Developing and directing a marketing and public relations strategy to educate, advocate and build awareness resulting in increased business relationships.

 Relationship Building and Communications

A qualified candidate will be known for:

  • Possessing strong interpersonal skills to nurture existing relationships with clients, partners, influencers, and identifying and building the relationships essential to achieving the vision of the organization.
  • Collaborating with partners and other key stakeholders to strategically approach initiatives for advancing and maximizing impact.
  • Communicating effectively internally with employees and the President, and externally with all stakeholders; positively influencing others to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization.
  • Effectively presenting information to large groups/organizations and other stakeholders, speaking with evident passion about a topic of importance, combining facts with stories in a mix appropriate to the audience.

Team Management and Talent Development

The successful candidate must have a verifiable history of:

  • Creating short and long‐term strategies for staffing as the organization changes and grows, utilizing performance evaluations and other planning tools.
  • Establishing trust and fostering a vibrant, respectful, and inclusive environment demonstrating commitment toward seeking and securing a diversity of ideas.
  • Developing performance and leadership through support, education, coaching, mentorship, and opportunities to stretch their capabilities.
  • Working cooperatively and effectively with others to build consensus, set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Empowering and engaging a team, leveraging their expertise and ideas, and providing opportunities for staff to develop decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Maintaining a culture of team and individual accountability, along with systems and communication tools to ensure an efficient team.

Operational Excellence

A candidate will have demonstrated success in:

  • Developing and managing a budget, setting and meeting goals for long-term financial health, with evidence of planning for internal capacity, cash flow needs, and investment in growth.
  • Demonstrating a willingness to be flexible, versatile, and intuitive in adopting an acceptable pace of innovation in a changing environment, while at the same time improving effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Negotiating and overseeing programmatic, financial, and contractual deliverables of service contracts.
  • Drafting and implementing internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance and organizational effectiveness.
  • Evaluating opportunities and identifying an appropriate balance of activities and programs for impact and alignment with funding sources and earned-revenue potential.
  • Monitoring progress against the strategic plan and corresponding budgets, making recommendations to the President to capitalize on successes, make course corrections, and mitigate unforeseen issues.

Credentials

  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, with a master’s degree or M.B.A preferred.
  • 7+ years of related experience, at least 3 years of which in a management position of significant responsibility.
  • Previous experience working with or for nonprofits and government organizations.
  • General knowledge of the field of performance management, organizational development, and social sector program evaluation preferred.

Benefits

Base salary plus bonus plans range from $80,000 to $130, depending on skills and experience.  We offer health insurance, 401K, paid time off, holiday pay, and a beautiful working environment. Although we offer a flexible hybrid schedule, candidates much be located in central Ohio.

Charly Bauer

Executive Director

Charly Bauer, executive director for Measurement Resources, leads the team of data analysts and subject matter experts to help purpose-driven organizations use measurement to move their missions forward. Prior to joining Measurement Resources in early 2022, Charly served as C-suite executive and co-founder of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, where he supported the growth of the company from one to 58 scoop shops in 16 cities. He also managed the company’s philanthropy efforts and led the organization through the process of becoming a Certified B Corporation in 2013. He currently serves on nonprofit boards, including BuddyUp for Life and Besa, and has previously served on the boards of Leadership Columbus, the Short North Business Association and Short North Alliance, and the North Market Development Authority, where Jeni’s had its first retail location. Prior to Jeni’s, Charly served as a product manager at OCLC, Inc., the global library technology and research organization.
