This month, Measurement Resources Company (MRC) is excited to highlight Charly Bauer, our Executive Director. Charly plays a key role in our team’s success. His strong leadership brings clarity and direction to our work, while his quick wit keeps things lively. He is deeply dedicated to our partners, championing their missions, and ensuring our work supports their impact in meaningful ways.
Charly joined MRC in 2022. As Executive Director, Charly is a trusted leader and strategist dedicated to empowering both our partners and our team. He works closely with clients to understand their goals, helping them develop data-driven strategies that maximize their impact. Through clear communication and thoughtful collaboration, he builds strong relationships, fosters trust, and ensures our work aligns with the missions of those we serve. Within our team, Charly cultivates a supportive and inclusive culture, mentoring staff and providing the tools they need to grow and succeed. His ability to blend big-picture vision with practical execution makes him a key driver of meaningful change for our partners and team.
In MRC projects, Charly represents the ‘voice of the customer’ and brings the viewpoint of a funder or nonprofit board member to strategic plans and other projects. He is also responsible for growing the business and building our pipeline of new partnerships. He loves making connections between clients and leveraging our shared skills and services. He has recently worked on data driven projects for The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio, Salvation Army, and Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
Before joining MRC Charly served as C-suite executive and co-founder of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, where he supported the company’s growth from a single store in Columbus’s North Market to over 20 cities. Charly also held a position as a Product Manager at OCLC, Inc., the global library cooperative where he managed new product development related to digital media.
Charly’s commitment to service extends far beyond his professional roles, shaping his deep dedication to community impact. He has held positions on multiple nonprofit boards such as the Upper Arlington Education Foundation, Leadership Columbus, and the Short North Alliance. He is currently a board member at Besa, a Columbus, Ohio based nonprofit with a mission to connect more people to community service. Besa is one of Columbus’ fastest growing nonprofits and has started to take its program to new communities outside of Ohio.
Charly has also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malawi, Africa as a High School Math, Physics, and Chemistry teacher in the 1990’s. Charly states;
“It was transformative for me. In addition to how warm and welcoming my students and neighbors made me feel, and how much I learned about the rest of the world, I had great pride in representing the United States.”
Since 1961, at the invitation of foreign governments, more than 240,000 Americans have served the United States and countries around the globe as Peace Corps Volunteers. There are currently more than 3,000 Volunteers working alongside community members in 60+ countries tackling local development priorities across the Peace Corps’ six work sectors: Agriculture, Community Economic Development, Education, Environment, Health, and Youth in Development.
A day in the life of Charly starts with a quick 7-minute workout, followed by a fresh cup of coffee while tuning in to The Daily podcast. From there, Charly dives into the day’s tasks, which often include proposal writing, supporting the Fractional Performance Management Team, and meeting with clients.
Outside of work, Charly enjoys playing—though mostly learning—the guitar and ukulele, staying active with competitive recreational tennis, and unwinding with a good book.
